Chemically modified Jatropha curcas oil for biolubricant applications

چکیده
Jatropha curcas oil is one of interesting renewable resources for preparation biolubricants. However, direct application this as a biolubricant restricted due to its low oxidative stability. This drawback can be overcome by molecule structural redesign through chemical modification process at unsaturated functional groups. was modified via epoxidation, ring opening and esterification processes. Its conversion the epoxidized performed using in situ performic acid catalyst, then reaction with oleic presence p-toluenesulfonic catalyst process. The final catalyzed sulfuric acid. Molecular structures were determined measurements oxirane oxygen content Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), proton carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR 13C NMR) spectroscopy analyses. results showed that stability, viscosity, flash point pour product significantly improved. In specific, processes inducing branching bending molecular structure have resulted improved viscosity index 135, -29?C increased 250?C.

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ENZYMATIC TRANSESTERIFICATION OF Jatropha OIL USING LIPASE FROM Jatropha curcas and Jatropha gossipyfolia
Biodiesel consists of monoalkyl esters of long chain fatty acids. It is produced from vegetable oils or fats either by chemical transesterification with methanol or ethanol. The cost of lipases and the relatively slower reaction rate remain as the major obstacles for enzymatic production of biodiesel as opposed to the conventional chemical processes. The enzymatic process offers several advanta...

A study on the physicochemical properties of Jatropha curcas seed oil for industrial applications were carried out. Physicochemical properties of J. curcas seed oil (59.32% lipids) showed high content of LA (36.70%), iodine value (104.90 mg/g) and saponification value (203.36 mg/g). The present study shows that, J. curcas seed oil is rich in oleic and linoleic acids. The J. curcas seed oil with...

Due to its large number of potential utilizations Jatropha curcas L. (physic nut, purging nut), a tropical plant cultivated in many Latin American, Asian and African countries, has become topic of various research projects. Nutritional as well as technical applications, however, are restricted due to the plant’s toxicity. The seed oil contains phorbol esters, a family of compounds known to caus...
